Nanaimo & Area Attractions

Located just a ferry ride from Vancouver and a short drive up from Victoria, Nanaimo is home to many excellent outdoor and indoor adventures. 

Harbourfront Walkway

Watch the sea planes take off, visit the gift shops or get a cone of your favorite ice cream. Nanaimo's harbourfront walkway is 4+ km of nature, restaurants, cafes, gift shops, people watching and more. 

Nanaimo Golf Club

Enjoy a round at this beautiful golf course overlooking Departure Bay. The course is always in great condition and some holes offer a good challenge. The clubhouse offers delicious food with a very nice view.

Nanaimo Museum

The interactive exhibits throughout the museum are engaging and educational and the coal mine exhibit depicts the all important role that coal mining played in the Nanaimo region. People of all ages will find the Nanaimo Museum a pleasure to visit.

The Port Theatre

Located on Nanaimo’s waterfront, The Port Theatre brings top touring performing arts groups, including acoustic and amplified music, drama, comedy, symphony, musical theatre, children’s entertainers as well as conferences and symposia. Check out their website for upcoming shows.

Newcastle Island

Beautiful Newcastle Island offers a great walk, lovely beaches & some coal mining history. It's a great day trip adventure for all ages and abilities. The ferry leaves from Maffeo Sutton Park downtown during the warmer months.

Pipers Lagoon Park

Beautiful views of Vancouver mountains, great trails and beaches for exploring and when the tide goes out, there is a nice sandy swimming beach near the end of the path and a nice tidal lagoon on the other side of the path. There are many magical hidden spots amongst the Garry Oak trees and various coves.

WildPlay Element Park

Along the Nanaimo River, WildPlay's 17-acre Park is home to an array of scenery and fun. The options at the park include bungy jumping and an intense swing above the Nanaimo River, zip lines and the 'Monkido' aerial course: a series of rope bridges, obstacles and games in the trees.
